The beautful thing about incorporating aromatherapy and essential oils into our lives is that we can be our own creative NATURAL chemist and make blends for particular scenarios and needs through the year. As we come into the summer, let’s embark on some healthy, chemical free and DEET free natural essential oil based options for our skin and clothes.
MOSQUITO AND BUG REPELLENT - in a large spray bottle fill with water and put lemon, peppermint, eucalyptus radiata, and lemongrass. 15 drops of each, then shake well before using. The blend Purification I use as it has many effective oils that keep bugs away – especially citronella and can be made the same way.
MOTH REPELLENT: Patchouli
HORSE FLY REPELLENT: Idaho tansy floral water, which you can make yourself the same as above
COCKROACH REPELLENT: Mix 10 drops peppermint and 5 drops cypress in 1/2 cup salt water. Shake well and spray where you see them
SILVERFISH REPELLENT: Eucalyptus radiata
APHIDS REPELLENT: Mix 10 drops spearmint and 15 drops orange oils in 2 quarts of salt water, shake well, and spray on the plants
Some suggestions I have learned over the years is to mark the bottle as to the oils, and the area – garden, family repellent, or insects around home. I have found that ants either despise peppermint oil in water or clove oil to keep them away – it is a matter of finding the correct ones to get the job done. HAPPY BUG FREE SUMMER!!
